This book describes how important foundations and donors have been for the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich since its foundation in Ingolstadt in 1472. It makes it clear that the LMU would have developed differently without generous foundations and that it owes its successes, like other universities, to a considerable extent to its foundations. This success story came to an abrupt end with the inflation of 1923.
The book aims not only to present interesting biographies of previous donors, but also to encourage new donors to become involved in "their" university.
